Rencong for comment
Just received this rencong yesterday, and wanted to get the comments of those members, who are much more knowledgeable in Aceh weapons than I am (which means everyone here, basically).
Can anyone tell from the pictures if the band on the hilt is copper or suasa? Probably copper, but I am far from an expert. I try not to venture out of my main field of interest and hopefully this is an authentic old rencong and not a newly made one. Thank you, Teodor |

Would you show closeups of the ferrule? So far it looks copper but closeups would help.

I think we all agree on the copper. Honestly, I was not really concerned much about whether it was suasa or not, but much more concerned about the age of the entire item. It looked old to me, but I have been fooled before by weapons from the region, si I will be grateful for any feedback on this matter.
I am glad you like the blade, Sajen and Battara. Thank you all for your comments. Teodor |

A lovely rencong. If I'm not mistaken, I see a pamorblade. Congrats on this piece.

Nice old rencong with laminated blade
Looks like the real deal (eufenism, I mean : is the real deal) . If you ever want to part from it let me know You can wash it with lemon or lime to bring out the lamination a little bit more. Ferrule looks like copper, but try to polish it up with just a cotton cloth. Suasa wil start to shine more easily due to the silver and gold contents. Best regards, Willem |

Henk & Willem,
Thank you very much. I wanted to get an authentic (menaing, not touristy) rencong, and I hope I have come far compared to my previous attempt: http://vikingsword.com/vb/showthread...hlight=rencong I brought the pattern out with diluted vinegar, but I will probably try citric acid. I have read from Alan Maisey that pineapple juice work good. Can anyone confirm this? Anyway, thank you all very much, I am very happy with this rencong, which will now take its place next to a munitions grade sikin I have. Aceh weapons can be very interesting and addictive and I will have to watch out. Regards, Teodor |
