Hi Jimmy,
It looks a bit married in styles . Blade seems a Buginese Sepokal form, scabbard, maybe altered/restored; the wrongko looks like nice wood . The hilt ? Not so sure about that . It is nice work but I'm not sure it goes with the blade and scabbard style . |

Hi Jimmy,
please post pictures in plan view, with the pictures you posted it's difficult to get a good opinion. Handle seems new and the mendak is from Cirebon. Regards, Detlef |

Agree with Rick and Sajen. Both hilt and mendak seem rather new, but difficult to be sure. Nice mendak, as far as I can see.

From where I live, the hilt is called from cirebonan area. The curly around the base and on the cheek are the indication. The style maybe someone try imitate without real sample or only from pictures.
I also have two of this similar mendak, the local said from north coast of Java or madura. Who has the authority to confirm where its from? if looks good, keep it. The pamor on the blade could also jawa baratan or sumatra, if cleaned and properly stained would be much easier to see. The wrongko maybe new (from thepicture) but not sure myself and the cutting quality does not meet Bugis style. Just my two cents opinion. |
