Parang Nabur
Here is my new Parang nabur / Beladah Belabang
The quality of the chisling on the horn hilt is on par with some firearm grips that I have seen and the knucklebow is the best that I have, amazing when you think of the conditions that these craftsmen worked in. I guess it just goes to show that it is the person and not the workshop that makes the difference. The fittings appear to be a nickel alloy rather than silver. Blade with a magick square and a quite heavily chisled pattern down the centre. O/A length is 78 cm Blade length is 61cm and is 6 mm thick on the spine near the hilt. The protrusions on the bow would make a very effective knuckleduster although whether this is the intension I do not know. As usual, all comments appreciated. Regards Roy |

Nice example.
The blade carvings are rather crude, but the horn handle compensates this easily Fittings are probably nickel alloy. Most (if not all) parang nabur I have seen so far had nickel alloy and/or brass but no silver. Looking forward to the shield you bought |

CONGRADULATIONS ON AQUIRING A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE. I LIKE THAT TYPE OF BLADE TIP IT KIND OF REMINDS ME OF SOME TYPES OF MANDAU. DOES IT HAVE A FALSE EDGE OR REAL EDGE ON TOP NEAR THE TIP? THE GAURD COILD SERVE TO STRIKE AND WOULD KEEP AN ADVERSARY FROM GRABBING THAT HAND AND HOLDING ON. ITS BEAUTIFUL BUT SHARP AND SPIKEY.

Thanks for the comments gents.
Asomotif, I agree about the chisling on the blade, but as you say, made up for by the hilt. Vandoo, it's a false edge. Roy |

Nice Beladah Belabang.
Besides the handle with it's beautifull handguard, I also like the blade, despite it is carved a bit roughly. I have seen these rougher carvings more on parang nabur blades, and owned one similar with also those crude carvings in the blade. What I like is that the carvings are going all over the length of the blade till the shoulder. |

The BB is also one of my favourite swords, from an overall fencing perspective.
If I remember all the details correctly this beauty is from an old Swedish collection. If that's the case I have handled it and the balance is good as well. Michael |
