I may be wrong here but I believe that the matchlock you show with the curved stock is the Yemeni Matchlock which I mention in my post here http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=18302 at #15. You will note that the curved stock is the same shape as the Omani BUT the "cutback" near the match is more like those on Indian Toradors. The Omani of course has a smooth curve leading to the match. Hi Cerjak,
The numbers and letters on the Torador, could be Armoury marks/numbers. Stu |

Hi Khanjar ,
Thank you for your comment. It is always nice to have new threads about gun here ,those threads are not so many and most of the post in this section are about bladed weapons. I found a similar curve stock and "cutback" in Firearms of the Islamic world P176 About the mark yes you are right many gun I saw from India were with arsenal number. Also It make me remember one of my old thread about Tibetan mathlock gun. http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=16923 Best Cerjak |

Yes I have the book, and agree, but this is unlike any of the other Toradors shown in that the others all have the typical straight stock. It is quite possible that there is some Arabian influence here, as it is well known that there was a very close trading tie between India and Arabia. Indeed Arabian mercenaries were employed in India, particularly in the Sind. If you have Tirri's book Islamic Weapons he shows a matchlock on page 89 which reputedly comes from Yemen, and this one has the "cutback. Nice pieces you have by the way. Stuart |

Hi Jean-Luc,
The general shape suggests to me that this is from Oman. Compare the stock shape with this one of mine. The toe on mine has an extra piece attached. I like the brass?? decoration on your one. Stuart |

i think i would agree with comments made by stu,how about just a guess/8th lahore militia?,8th lucknow militia, the number below possibly an arsenal number?does the decoration on the barrel end corespond to any known style from either of these places.
