Inside museum there is a room with the Romero Ortiz Collection. This piece belongs to this Collection.

Muchas gracias, Carlos! Nice quality material, well-displayed. Has the museum published a comprehensive catalog?

Hope you took pics of the best of the Spanish and European arms and armor too. If so could you please share with us on the European Armoury forum? We'd especially like to see what this museum has in the way of late-medieval Hispano-Moresque daggers and swords, and the early Spanish firearms that inspired later indigenous production in North Africa, the Levant, and Turkey...

Wonderful objects!

I am most interested in the exceptional decoration of the lantaka and its possible age. Museum descriptions should be taken with a heavy dose of salt, and judging by the quality of the casting and workmanship I would push the dating back by at least a century.

I'm with you on the lantaka, However remember that just because it was captured in 1876 doesn't mean that it was made then. In fact, it very well may have been made much earlier, especially if it was in use by that time.
