Nice old piece, Kronchew, and I agree about the Ethno page 'stealing' all the club threads!

A very nice old piece with wonderful patina. I have an old belay pin with nearly exact same grip that is lathe turned and from roughtly the same era (early to mid-19th?). Wouldn't want to get hit with that one, especially with the weighed end! Ouch!

picked up this ancient roman vitis, a centurions vinewood staff from ebay tonite.

it's disguised as a 19c. heavy walking stick. looks more like another cudgel to me. est. from. at from 1850-1899. 34 in. that white metal grip end cap looks very hammer-ish, held on with a substantial screw .

spiral stick arrived this morning. nice heavyweight at about 660 grams. the heavy brass grip pommel has been used to hammer stuff, looks scratched like the end of a hammer. not deformed tho. appears to be a heavy thickness. heavy brass sleeve on the ground end, open centre exposing wood which shows some wear.
