Kukri with ivory hilt
Kukri, another arena I know nothing about. I picked it up just recently. I really like the shaped of the hilt and being carved from ivory, was the kicker.
It's on the smaller side, I think. Measures 16 inches, with the blade being 12 inches. Is it Indian, Nepali????? Age? Comments? Last edited by kino; 15th June 2009 at 12:06 AM. |

It sure does look like Ivory; but what is that material in the center of the sunburst/flower near the brass bolster ?
It looks kind of volcanic ..... Calling all Kuksters !! |

It looks like cement in the middle of a vein hole.

Hmmmmm
But what about all the pores and pockmarks there ?
Wouldn't filler finish off smooth ? |

Some older cements didn't and it depends on the cement.

My guess is N. Indian mid-early 20th century. Phallic (?) grip added later perhaps as well as the brass blade decoration.

Kino, BBJW pegged it.
Its an early to mid 20th century decorative blade, allied at a later date to a walkingstick handle of similar era. The filled hole was wear the cane was fitted into the handle. Spiral |
