My first sudanese silver armdagger for comment
Hi all
Got my first armdagger from Sudan. Well made knife and scabbard, some loss of the silver on the ebony handle but in a overall good condition. Quality blade, central rib and sharp edges. Not much wear on handle and scabbard. As for age i got no idea, found simular examples on older threads dated late 19 to early 20 c. Comments verry welcome. Greetings Marc |

Very good quality example from around 1950-1980 ... I would guess.

Great looking dagger. Previous thread from 2004-05 shows similar handle design motifs. See on attached thread link Post #15 for a date of 1899 and Post #20 for a made in Omdurman notation.

Hiya Marc, a really nice example of the type. The best of these match anything made elsewhere for quality, in my opinion..... You have one of the best.

Hi Marc and Duccio, both arm dagger examples are from around mid-20th century or shortly after, but are good examples for that approximate date. The quality dramatically decreased after this time period. Here are two from my collection. The larger is dated and marked 1328 (1900/1901) "Omdurman" and on reverse "Al Kartoum." The smaller dagger is likely around the same time period as well.

Hi Geof
Thanks for your reaction and posting your verry fine daggers. Do you consider the 1900/1901 omdurman date a manufacturing date or a memorial date? Greetings Marc |
