Nice powder measures everyone. I've always "loosely" called these adjustable measures Ottoman, based on what I have read. Though a difference in decoration, note that most of this style of measure have a general build pattern. They look similar. Also note that the plungers work by simple friction without a set screw to keep it in a pre-determined position. I need to measure how many grains of black powder each mark represents. Just never got around to doing it. I found this one at the Baltimore Antique Arms Show a few years ago. It was in excellent, working condition.

Did the chain come with it, Rick ?
Mine has three different types of markings on the plunger; could they be different measure units ?

Hi Fernando

Yes, the chain came with the measure. (Wish I could find a source for chain like this).
The modern day versions of these measures are marked 20, 30, 40, etc. up to 120. With marking in between these numbers representing 5 grains of black powder.
So the marks on these originals have to be something similar. I'll just have to take my new measure and do some experimenting. Will report back.

Notice the markings on your measure is identical to mine.
