A Swiss (Engineering?) Sword
I have this short sawback sword, I was told it's a swiss artillery sword, or an engineering sword.
I haven't seen many of them for sale on ebay. It has serial number and a mark of Wester&co solingen. Is there a way to find out when it was made? I would like to try to date this piece, verify it's authenticity, and learn about how and where it was used. in short, any info that can be provided on this piece is wellcome. Yaniv. |

Lovely condition, are you sure its Swiss?
Did the Swiss copy or Import the hilts from the French? Isn't this a pioneer variation of the French 1831 Artillery Gladius? It is in amazing condition. This specific variation is not one I'm familiar with. The only swiss one I can find pictures of is: Welcome to the forums by the way Are there any other stamped marks on the hilt under the leather washer?
