Default Re-posting a Portuguese sabre

I have originaly intended to open a specific thread on this item but, by mistake, i have posted it in a reply to Jim's welcome to this new Forum.
As i was saying there ...
This is not a pretentious specimen, rather an action piece; a Portuguese infantry officer sabre, from the period of Dona Maria II, circa 1843, based on the 1822 Britsh pattern.
Its robust blade is 78 cms. long, 7,5 m/m thick and 32 m/m wide at the forte.
The guard is embelished with the Portuguese royal crest.
This will be a deja vue for Jim, as he knows the majority of my non ethno pieces, wich eventually i showed him some time ago by direct email.
I hope the other members will find some little interest, though.
Fernando

Nice to see that the 'hinged' section of the guard is still in place. Does the hinge still function ? Often the pin gets distorted through damage, preventing smooth movement.

Hi David
The hinge works perfectly ... with a holding pause and everything; the only thing i have to be alert when i unlock it, as the blade is too loose inside the scabbard (i think no wooden plates) and this falls off immediately ... you know i don't have a second hand to hold it .
Otherwise, and apart from missing the grip cover ray skin, which is usual, all guard, blade and scabbard are in an excelent condition.
