I saw it...
First, despite the eagle, there is no corroboration, either marking or inscription. Also, I have an uneasy feeling about the light area around the eagle. It was advertised as Russian. As you know, Russian oligarchs would pay extra for anything "imperial" ( post-revolutionary nostalgia, I guess). Adding a double-headed eagle to a Turkish shamshir would be a piece of cake and would bring extra money. I guess that's the origin of the double-headed eagle. And... it worked! More than $4k, as far as I remember. Do not despair, old son! And, BTW, you better start bragging about Tirri's Laz Bichagi |

Have you meant Tirri's Egyptian Knopesh?
I'm really looking forward to recive it. What is happening to Tirri's Collection? There are a lot of stuff on ebay lately... SHAMSHIR: According to the seller, there are hallmarks on the scabbard. I was too late for asking adittional photos. The coat of arms looks Montenegrin, rather than Russian. Central Lion instead of saint George. I also had that uneasy feeling about the light area around the eagle, but it could be a camera effect. Besides that it really looks stamped into de scabbard rather than soldered subsequently. |
