Hi BerberDagger!

I imagine this would be supposed to be a high-end koummiya, what with the silver fittings...The question is whether it is silver or something else. There are some people on this forum with great knowledge about silverwork and they could probably tell whether this is high quality authentic work or tourist junk. To me, it looks like the "repousse" work is done by hand, somewhat crudely. Were the thing mass-produced, the mechanical stamp would have had smoother lines I think. The question is also how thick this silver is?
Lastly, what is the blade like? Again, if it is thick, it may be a legitimate weapon. If the blade is thin and bends or deforms easily I would leave it.
I do wonder what a true high-end silver-clad koummiya looks like...these weapons do deserve a comprehensive study I think...or I have to find the right book.

Those are my amateur observations though.

I have no expertise in the quality or antiquity of edged weapons, but I have to say it is very pretty. It has some personality!

I recognise the photos, even with the copyright photoshoped out, This knife is still listed for sale on Milke Longs website. Perhaps you shoud get him to mark it as sold?

http://www.michaeldlong.com/home.asp

As Item 104676, Moroccan all metal Jambiya dagger with sheath £85.00
Overall length 17 inches and with an 8.5 inch blade, the handle and sheath is formed from white metal and well engraved with floral designs.

So its probably not actualy silver.

Well, the first problem i see is that you are claiming this to be "good arab silver". As long as Michael D. Long has been in business i would image that he is very well capable of doing a simple silver test and knows the difference between real silver and generic white metal. My question is why would you claim so emphatically that this is real silver?

An interesting point should be made, although it has nothing to do with this dagger, its authenticity or materials used.
Michael Long was a very nice guy, and very knowledgable in certain fields. He was the one make decisions for Trident Arms and Micheal Long Ltd.
However, 'Michael Long ltd' is now a company that has continued trading after Michael sadly passed away, taking his knowledge and expertise with him.

As a client of this company I have to say here that among lot of items I bought twice I found wrong description. Once it was a nice pleasant surprise (and gain for me) and once it was totally unpleasant and I send it back.
