Karud and kindjal, goodbye
My collection has grown and space is limited, so I have to say goodbye to these two pieces.
1. An antique kindjal from Caucasus like no other (and I have seen plenty ). Blade has been etched to imitate Damascus. But the strange part is the scabbard that is brass in most of the front side (with filigree etc) and a layer of silver in the back side (with niello etc). I cannot understand why it is like this, but I suppose that it was matter of the owner’s taste. Scabbard tip ball is replaced. It has a signature but I never tried to decipher it. Blade 35cm. Total 48cm. Price $260. Free shipping. 2. A very big karud (big kard) from Afganistan with wootz Damascus blade with T section. Floral engraving on the blade. Very old and very thick ivory on hilt. The ivory has a fine color and it looks cracked but it is not. Original leather scabbard with frog and big steel tip. Recently a similar piece but with plain horn hilt sold in Czerny’s auction for 800 euros (plus 20% buyer premium). Blade 32.5cm. Total 51cm. Price $790. Free shipping. |
