Bali Hulu / Ukiran / Hilt
Hi All,
due to the hollidays here in Holland i am less active on the forum, and just look every few days whats new. I recently acquired some Hulu and they are from Bali / Lombok they came from an old collection that was brought together in the forties and have been in a storage since 1951 when the family returned to Holland from Indonesia after the war of independence. the top one: cecekahan or cekah redut / Danganan / Bebondolan middle one: Loceng / lelocengan rambut wood wrapped with hair bottom one: Does this one qualifies to the Cecekahan family or does it have another name. I could not find a similar one in my books or on the internet. So i hope to find more info by the experts here on the forum. Regards, Martin |

Bottom is cekah redut, top example is bebondolan, middle is loncengan.
The word "danganan" means the hilt of a keris. I think it can also mean the handle of an umbrella or handle of some other long large thing, like perhaps a walking stick. EDIT Sorry, I shot too quickly, I took a glance at the pics and the text, then i wrote, what I wrote was wrong, my quick glance gave me a memory of a bebondolan I missed the cuts, that top hilt will probably have a total of eleven cuts, so that makes it cekah solas. "solas" = "eleven", "cekah" = "thick slice". Last edited by A. G. Maisey; 13th August 2024 at 01:39 AM. |
