Interestingly varied collections.
I'm not sure how or if this applies to any of the weapons in their collections, but back about 20 years ago it was determined that the vast majority of their collection of pre-Columbian gold artifact were in fact fake. https://www.forbes.com/2002/01/09/01...l#4a5809e2285f |

Thank you for sharing those pictures, some interesting items in the arms collections. What is the story behind the ethnographic arms from around the world - was this someone's personal collection that was donated to the Museum?

Much more to add. Interesting the fake claims. Something easy to say and once sad sticks around. I must admit I was surprised at the quality of craftsmanship on a lot of it when compared to what's in the archaeology museum. Saying that how strong is the analysis it could be falable but the shout is out.
Another thought why use old gold pieces to make new ones. Did the old gold pieces have no value? Last edited by Tim Simmons; 8th January 2019 at 08:07 PM. |

Thank you for posting these. I have an interesting Pre-Columbian artifacts from Vera Cruz, Colima, Peru, Valdivia Nazca . One is a "shaman in flight"no weapons
Like David said, many of the Pre-Columbian artifacts are fake. I was fortunate to have mine vetted by a Pre-Columbian expert. Most of mine came from Lew Deadmore Col (deceased) |

Indeed the Larco has been tarred by the same brush though to my eye the quality of artistry was supreme.

Beautiful collection! The crystal handle on the daggers are incredible in the last picture.
I had a horse head dagger similar in the same picture, but gave it to a friend. It had a type of name that escapes me. |
