Salaams Weapons 27 ~ These are interesting because they appear to be big hunting knives. The bird looks like a Parrot or a Puffin? Could they be the knife carried when out bird shooting..? The "coup de grace" when hunting birds(and other game) is after shooting them they are "killed" with the knife..a traditional practice. Regarding the peculiar discs on the pommels ~ These appear to be talismanic shaped in a sort of leaf style (bota) almost the same as the index finger ring (prayer ring in Islamic silver ) in silver perhaps warding off evil spirits.. This is an odd but fascinating set of daggers but I am certain they are purposeful hunting /fighting knives. I wonder what is the hilt...blackhorn? The dagger tips are reinforced which is normal for Knives from Afghanistan and Indian makers but it seems odd that the designs are not Islamic but entirely niaive and fanciful garden scenes with heavy influence from the little fat bird... In which case you may have to consider the tourist angle !! Regards, Ibrahiim al Balooshi. Last edited by Ibrahiim al Balooshi; 20th January 2013 at 05:03 PM. |
