What does it mean to see silver inlay in these blades?

It was a nice one! Unusual for anything to be missed on ebay, was it the lack of scabbard that held it back?

No I guess this item went by unnoticed by the people who would appreciate such beautifull sword.. :-(
If I had it I would remove that hair though....

PS I've a similar one, still one of my favorites!

I was the first one who give a bid to this mandau and have had in mind to went higher at the last moment. It was the working stress that I forget it and now I am more disappointed when I see how cheap it was sold!!!

Yep. I also put in a bid, and was overbid with just 2,50 by the winner.
Maybe should have snipped it

On the other hand, it is without scabbard, and all mandaus I have are with scabbard. So it would be a slight downgrade. even at this price.

I was also collecting "complete" pieces, but some are definately worth collecting without scabbards. Especially with such nice blades. Looks great on a socket!

Hi Maurice,

why you would do so? Do you think that the hair isn't original to the handle?

Regards,

Detlef

I strongly have that feeling yes, but I would take the final decision to get it out when having it in hands..

Kind Regards,
Maurice

Yes these things had hair into the handles indeed. But I have the feeling this is a latter implacement.
It looks a bit "fuzzy" at the base... ;-)

PS the resin rings seems also done later, but it could be the shiny image...
It also looks a bit longer as it used to was...
