Hi

Your knife is very much like mine. See below.

All I know is that mine is regarded as Ottoman Empire 19th century Turkey from Balkans area. I wouldn't mind is someone else could narrow the gap on the identification of mine too. I suspect Bosnia. But I just don' know.

Mine has engraving on the blade. On the one side is a snake, on the other some wavy patterns.

Hi
as far as you provide a pic for a nice knife
I hope so that the moderator will not have objection for a (quick) translation of an "ETHNIC" amulet

el fata illa Ali la saif illa zulfikar either There is no hero like Ali, There is no sword like the Zulfiqar,

Bismillah ar-Rahmân ar-Rahîm either in the Name of Allah (the Compassionate, the Merciful) ...

many parts writing in Farsi, noway no translate ... only Arabic
otherwise, names of "God" (Allah) Mohamed and so, FA .. TAMA in 2 parts for FATAMA (FATMA - FATIMA)

other side, again names, with a mention clearly Shiite (Kerbala - Iraq)
KARBALA MA'ALI ABDEL WAHAB FAHR EL DIN no translation, only names
that amulet should be Iranian, the mentions in Farsi, and anyway Shiite

Thank you very much indeed Dom, you found also a connection with this forum (zulfikar...).
So can we suppose that it is a warrior's amulet?

Ron, can you post better pictures of yours?

might be, but not an obligation,
could be for any kind of people, like a merchant,
but .. someone well established, it's expensive as amulet

no splitting between religious society and civil society,
the religion is in every where, with and for every thing,
I mean for Muslims

I believe this knife is from Montenegro. There are similar examples from Boka Kotorska in Elgood's recent book on Western Balkan Arms and Armor, and there is another example, also attributed to MOntenegro in a little book by Hermann Historica called "Dolche und Messer aus dem Pesischen KulturRaum".

Αfter 7 years, thanks to my friend Hussein Hamdy Mahmoud Mohamed Genedy, I have a complete translation of the amulet. I prefer to upload his handwritten note.
