Indo Persian Tabar
Hi all, I've noticed several of these cute axes on eBay lately and decided to bid on one. I actually ended up winning this particular tabar. I rec'd it in good order although I have my doubts as to the actual age of this piece. I've ignored the handle as it appears to me to be a recycled croquet mallet handle. My questions are: what is the collective thoughts re the age of this axe. What should a handle look like for this type of weapon. If orginal, what is the significance of the writing. Finally, there is light patina active rust which I really hate, should I gently clean it?

Hi Greg,
Whilst certainly no expert by any manner of means I have my doubts that there is much age at all to this axe, in the photographs something about the applied silver and the rust just doesn't seem right for a really old item, I do hope I'm totally wrong. Did you by any chance get it from a character in a David Bowie song !!!!!! Regards, Norman. |

If you search for 'Tabarzin' and search worldwide, you will find similar new ones on ebay

Know What You Are Buying!
I would like to thank the forum for being so helpful. For all members who are considering a purchase, DO YOUR HOMEWORK before you buy. I did not and have paid too much for not being as diligent as I should be. When I did my search of the forum I did so without checking old postings and expanding my search to include term like Tabarzin rather than just Tabar and axe. Lesson learned
