Depicts pretty much a classical Dionysian orgy scene, with naked ladies, satyrs, drunks, and all the expected trimmings and carryings-on.
I can't say where it comes from, other than the human libido. |

Elkington and Co made a number of silver plated chargers or trays similar to this in the late 19th Cent. Usually designed by a fellow called Morel-Ladeuil.
Are there any traces of plate on yours? Regards Richard |

My guess would be Florentine. I have this octagonal vase which I found was made in Florence.

The repoussé high relief decoration are classical, inspired by late Roman style.
It would be quite difficult to precisely locate this plate as this type of decorations were widely used throughout Europe. |
