Thanks Sajen, usually Minangkabau's hilt motif would not be of a Dragon but sometihing like horse shoe (tapak kuda). Agree with you, maybe from Acheh. If some of our Malay friends could read the Jawi writing (Islamic script) on the scabbard would be useful. It would solve the problem. I could read only a little. The word Pedang (sword) has been mentioned.

I think we definitly can say the scabbard is Aceh. The scabbard is not original to this klewang. The scabbard is a damaged scabbard from a sikin panjang.
The sword is a sumatran pedang with a pamor blade. Lovely pedang, but a bit to expensive. I'm happy for the seller but I feel very very sorry for the buyer ![]() |

The scabbard is definately sikin panjang / Aceh and not original to the pedang.
This pedang would have a simple wooden scabbard that is oval, close to round in diameter. Maybe with some simple silver bands. I also notice some traces of red paint on the hilt. A scabbard could have also been painted red. ![]() I believe the lower jaw of the creature/dragon is missing. With a complete hilt it would have been worth the price. (imho) Now it went away rather high, but I can imagine that one would bid such an amount, as it is an original item and in that aspect much better than the poshy crap that is being offered from Medan lately via epray.
