Wow Ben,
That is a rare find! Did you grab it out of a museum at night when nobodys there? (Well in Bronbeek I didn,t see such nice piece as you have). I also like the shape of the scabbard. Never have seen such with that round looking shape which holds the sharp edge of the blade when it,s in the scabbard. Also the attractive handle is one of the book! Can you please post some pics of the handle from the side and back? I,m looking forward to hold it once! (or twice, or more often). Regards, Maurice |

Hi Maurice even pieces like this are hard to find in museums .
It comes from an Dutch collection I have still to ask the history about it, will let you know when you come over here to visit me . I did get some very rare items from Borneo you will be surprised . this is the typical Iban Handle that you can find in Saribas . If you see this one in real you will be surprised from the heavy blade and that it looks better than I get it on the pics . Ben |

A true beauty!
The scabbard is indeed unusual for a LT. Usually they are much more plain, if they have a scabbard left at all. Unusually cubistic head on the handle too as well as the unorthodox (for a LT) protrusions on the top of the tip. A very interesting and rare version of the already rare LT-parang - congratulations! Here are the 2 other variations of krowit that could be seen on a LT.
I haven't seen any other variations than these 3 but maybe someone else has? Michael |

is this another variation, or should we consider this not to be a LT but some kind of variant or transition piece? Maurice |

Ben, thanks for the additional pics. I really like those handles. I myself have two of those handles with headfigures. (unfortunately not on a langgai tinggang).

Hi Ben,
Here are the blades. But it was the krowit variations that were interesting. Also my latest LT with the sellers e-Bay pictures. The krowit variation is the same as Ben's but the blade isn't as nice as his. The hilt however is quite unusual. I think it's old style West Kalimantan Iban. Michael |

The wire on the handle looks like zinc and copper? or is it a type of rattan?

Hi Michael the first 2 pieces are missing the fat metal below the handle that
we mostly see on the L T the one you will get has the metal below the Handle . Are the 2 first ones have heavy blade's ?? It looks that those 2 are more an variation between the parang niabor / L T can you send close upp pics off the handle s . Ben |
