This dagger even being in poor condition and expensive is authentic. What really outrageous is this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Antique-Mughal-D...QQcmdZViewItem These katars are in perfect condition i.e. Brand New, and "expensive" takes another spin: "insane". |

Yes I also noticed this piece - with a gold koftgari mount that does not belong and the possibility of being green horn. I wonder if the blade just needs to be etched - still a lot of money.

Lew, I respect your tastes and interests. Something tells me this is completely new piece though, misrepresented as antique. Because I've seen similar items before, I believe that this one is the same, completely newly made, including the blade. As such, it can be good only as cheap souvenir, in my humble opinion.

Alex
The patina on the wood seems to suggest some age and a clean fresh looking blade is not always indicative of a newly made piece. The scroll work on the blade is rather well done. I would place this piece 1930s-50 but I can't be 100 percent sure since I do not have it in my hand. Lew |

Agree with Ariel 101%,
And also agree with Lew that not all shiny blades indicate "new". The collecting knowledge and experience is measured, in part, by how well one can "recognize" a genuine authentic item from "fake". And this is why we post these links here and collaborate our opinions. |

I shall throw my 2 cents worth into the " tourist" hat.
New through and through, flyssa-like, not even a whiff of wootz. This buyer is a wet dream of Chinese " commanding officer yataghan" makers. Do you think somebody should contact him and gently plant an idea of stopping buying and starting reading for a while? |
