Here are three Turkish swords. The top one is nicely restored one with mostly original (old) parts and fine wootz blade (wish I had "before restoration" pictures - it was a mess). The scabbard fittings were re-gilded, thus you do not see much wear and tear on it. The crossguard (Tughra stamped) does not match the rest of the scabbard fittings. The hilt and leather are old. The wood in the scabbard is new.
The second is also Ottoman? (Syrian made)? shamshir with pattern-weld/layered? blade. Note the large grain pattern. Is it typical/normal for Ottoman blades???? The blade is 1'' wide and VERY light and well balanced. Everything, except the brass wire looks original. The Kilij is complete restoration. Only the blade is old. Anyone sees/notices anything else?:-) Look forward for any comments. |

My apologies, the crossguard on the Kilij is old/authentic (Good catch:-)!!! but the scabbard fittings were made last week by a friend of mine. To demonstrate his mastery I am attaching some other examples of his work (two silver scabbards). A few artists can reproduce wootz, and very few can do the rest:-) |

Hello, I am a new guy who has been lurking around for a while. Can you provide a contact point for the person who did this work? Is he looking for new commissions? There are always a couple of things that need a repair...
best, digenis |

Hello from a new guy who has been lurking around for a while. Does this master artisan have a name and contact point? Always looking for some expert to do some repair/recreation work on Ottoman weapons.
