Flavio:

That's a very nice Maranao kris but I'm not fond of the repair to the pommel. It looks odd for the period (c. 1900) and I don't think it is consistent with a Mindanao piece (while the scabbard is). The original kakatua pommel would almost certainly have been much plainer with a short, sqare-ended, minimal crest. The carving on the kakatua is well done but not in keeping with the overall presentation of the sword IMO.

Is the band over the pommel a repair or decoration? I have one that looks like a repair on mine.

G'day Flavio,

Nice keris u got there. I like the repair on the pommel. It is not according to period as Ian had said, but it is not a cheap repair IMO. I got pommel that is screwed back into place which is horrible. Congrats on the piece.
