This is a most intriguing artifact - thank you for sharing it. I imagine a very significant proportion of the older arms in our collections would, if we could ever know, also have very interesting stories associated with them.

I increasingly fear that the last sentence of the cataloger's description is a correct assessment of humankind's progress.
