Default Khanjar hilted knife'': ID wanted...:)

Hello dear members,
I'd like your advice about this knife
Seems just a recent fancy item: an assembled khanjar hilt on a european knife blade shape and ferule.

Recent, fancy but well made ( horn hilt and I'll show more)

Any idea where it comes from ??

Kind regards

I like it very much: reminds me of art deco style.
The grip and ferrule are very nice, but (personal taste) it deserves a better blade; slightly wider and a little longer with a sleeker / tighter shape following the symmetric form of the grip and ferrule.

Hello,
Thank you for your message,
I totally agree with you, something of a ''french- north european'' art déco knife mixed with a turkish-kurdish style hilt or some kindjal like hilt.

For me it is european made with orientaiist influence
but, it is made like a knife but large as a khanjar dagger: 44cm/17,3 inches long and the blade seems laminated,
I'll try to etch it a little....
Maybe a rehilted blade ?
I agree again, it is nice but something strange and not well balanced between the blade length and shape and the hilt...

To me, it has a hint of tableware about it. Either a carving knife made in an orientalist style, or even a Turkish\Ottoman kindjal refitted with a cutlery blade to make a 'conversation' piece?
Best wishes
Richard

The blade has signs of Turkish linear laminations, which would not likely appear in a common table knife. A proper clean & etch with FeCl or even instant coffee might be more definitive.

The silver ? on the pommle looks like Yemen work. To me it looks like a rather nice well made knife of unusual form, like many not immediately recognised examples will remain a mystery for some time and often scorned.

Hilt is reminiscent of Kurdish work. I can't argue with Yemen silver work, but the turquoise in silver setting reminds me of Central Asian jewelry.

All the parts have a certain elegance, but the blade/hilt contrast is a bit jarring, as mentioned above. Even so, I like it.

Thank you all for your comments,
For the moment, I just etch the blade with 14 degrees vinegar, not perfect but it shows trace of lamination .
Oriental work ?

Red face

For the large cutlery knife hypothesis,
Too large I think ...
But maybe à large cooking knife,
waiting to be sharpened enough to have
a nice shape
W the black tape,
Like this shape ...
More khanjar like....

your knife / dagger reminded me a little of this one from the Southern Magreb : could be present day Moroccan, Berber or even Touareg.
The similarity I see is the blade, difference with your the position of the blade versus the grip / handle.

Where the "Magrebian"is synchronic; symetric line, with yours if a draw a (virtual) line all the way from the grip / handle down ...I see a few degrees difference with the line of the dagger
That looks strange to me as with most or all knives from that part of the world, or even Ottoman or post Ottoman countries you see a kind of "harmony" in the line of blade and grip.
Sorry I have no other way to express this...
And whilst I think yours is very nice, I mis the "harmony"or synchronity"and suspect perhaps a marriage...but than again I can be utterly wrong...
the decoration makes me think of the daggers from the Caucasus where you find 2 iron pins as fixation points and the blue decoration stones with filigree back to the glory days of the region around Samarkand
