Thank you AHorsa. I suspected as much but the details in the swept hilt was above average for Victorian period "historismus" example so thought it would be interesting to get some opinions. What time period is the sword based upon? 16th or 17th century?

The decor and mascarons are renaissance elements I would say which fit rather to the 16th than 17th c. But others might know more about the overall style of that piece, which is indeed a very decorative well made object.
