Default New Moro Kris: need opinion

Having witnessed innumerable discussions of Moro weapons on this Forum, I have decided to put my newly-acquired "knowledge" to the test.
I just sniped this Kris. No handle, but the blade looks old to me , with separate gangya, suggesting 19th century( how am I doing so far?)
I am not asking whether the royal sum of $82 is too much; compared to the current price of gas, it is a pittance.
What do you think of it? Should I give it polish/etching, look for a new handle and proudly display it as a personal weapon of my ancestors (after all, Lucy was our common great-grandmother)? Or just consign it to the farthest corner of my closet and buy it an "eximious housecarl Japanense yatagan" so it does not feel lonely in the dark?

Wink Ehh .....

You could have done worse Ariel ; looks turn of the century .
Send it on to Battara but be sure you haggle with him over the price for a new baca baca and hilt plus bands for the scabbard .

We don't want him to get a big head now .

Ariel:

You did fine on the price and it looks about 100 +/- years old, maybe a little older. Fortunately it is disassembled so you can clean it completely. I would suggest a good polish and etch (you may be surprised by the pattern), then off to Battara for a nice kakatua hilt and cord wrap. Some rattan strips around the scabbard would look pretty sharp too.

Ian.

You folks are way too kind.

Oh, Rick, as far as the "big head" is concerned - too late.

Yes, I agree - worth restoration and I would be glad to do so.

OK, folks, this is my first attempr at etching. RadioShack etching solution, diluted 1: 5, held for ~30 seconds.
I guess, I earned a "Gentleman's C" for effort, but the quality is unlikely to be satisfactory for Moro afficionados. BTW, if we have Dhafiosos, do we have Moron-ians?
Woops, I am afraid I am stepping on too many toes....
Seriously, how does it look? It seems the edge is hardened and there is some pattern even in the center of the blade.

Buenas Tardis Ariel,

Off course you'll earn that gentleman's c. from me, that's a wonderful kris alright, you also earn the right to brag! but you don't need to be so fiesty about it! And to answer your question, the only "Moron-ians I see. . . . . is you!

Thanks! I have a couple of good Moro Krises and a great Panabas and , with the acqusition of this one, I feel an organic bond with esteemed Moro-nian Forumites. Just need to find a transitional form of a sword, something like Kampi-shashka
Will you adopt me, guys?

I duuno.....i kinda like Moro-maniacs.
Not sure if that is rust Rick spys or just a strange discoloring due to the chemical process. Personally i wouldn't use such chemicals. but would stick to something simplier and slower like vinegar or citrus.

Nechesh, you may have a point (like the one on top of my head ). I think it is not rust but chemical discoloration that occurs with near full strength acid of this nature is used and not cleaned off well. Nice greys and blacks though.

I also like Moro-maniacs (since I coined the phrase ).
