help with this ritual dagger
Hi guys, i would appreciate some help cataloging this dagger.
Love the Cobra coming up in the case, with a hole in it. I will say austronesian area....but really dont know exactly where. It has symbols, probably text...so i guess some of you will know fast where it cames from. Also in one of the pics you will see a weird ....nail....on the top of one of the symbols. it has more of this around the dagger....inside it has like teeth....i mean if you puts your finguer inside-outside fast your finguer will be suffer from scratches. best Last edited by SHAKAÁ_7; 15th March 2018 at 09:06 PM. |

SHAKAÁ, you posted this in the Keris Swap Forum for some reason. I have moved it to the Ethnographic Forum, but you have not provided any photographs to go along with your descriptions so i don't think anyone will be able to help you until you do.

Sorry, i could be wrong of course, but i do not think this item is a serious ritual or magical dagger. It looks far more like a fantasy item produced for such purposes. It may be of Asian or Indian origin, but i do not believe this is a true ethnographic item. But maybe someone else has seen something like this before and has a different assessment.

It looks like a lek nam pi dagger used by the buddhists of southeast asia to ward off evil spirits. The carvings appear to be sanskrit as well. The dagger looks to be really old, otherwise it may have fallen into some saltwater and had been immersed there for quite sometime.
I may be wrong of course, but it does appear to be a mitmor spirit knife. How have you come by it, if you dont mind me asking |

Thankx so much for your time, and reply.
As u thought, it was in the water for long time, and out of the water around 30 years ago. With your info i will try to find more info and translate the symbols. Thanks again! |
