There is no problem shipping knives and swords into the U.S. as long as they conform to the CITES requirements. State and local laws may restrict ownership of certain types of knives, such as switchblades, but this should not be an issue with U.S. customs. You may have more problems trying to bring something with you into the country rather than having it shipped by another party.
