Egerton mentions "jauhar" when discussing the production of gun barrels: Quote:

Indeed in Hindi, जौहरी "jauhari" means "jeweller". Years ago Dom traced "jauhar" to the Arabic "ga'howara" meaning precious. So we have a possible term for the patterning, but not for the welding aspect. |
