Thanks for the input. Hopefully, we can get to the bottom of this. The thumb rest is not only found on Spanish swords. They are also on Italian, Portuguese, British Pattern 1908, and, the US "Patton" sword.

When I have seen pictures my first impression was Mexican too. I have seen anothers pieces with this type of sheath.
