sheat for frankish/carolingian sax
hallo friends
I would like to make copy of sax from gerat Moravia gravefield in Mikulcice. It is broken back sax with long handle, like sax of Charlemagne, view pic. I prefer "charlemagne type" of sheat. I have two questions about this sheat. 1 Do you know any other metal fittings of sheat like those from picture above? But not so elaborate. I know a lot of remnants of leather sheats, but only any metal fitings from Stein book, but those are only from tip of sheat. 2 Do you know how was execute fastening of this sheat to the belt? Similar like older saxes from 8.c. like this big example? In this "Saint jakob type" was iron stick riveted by big bronze rivets from the oposite side of sheat for fastening of leather straps for hanging of sheat to the belt. Or any other way? Thank you very much Sidney |
