Hi Hara,

It is hard to say if it is text or decoration, but my guess is hat it is decoration. Nice old sword, but please show the hand guard plate in detail. Is it showing two birds?

Indian Art in Marlborough House, which is a catalogue over gifts the Prince of Wales, was given on his visit to India in 1875-76.

In Case A no 1 is a tulwar with a hilt like the one you have. The one given to the Prince was studded with gems, and yours don’t seem to be – but the hilt form is the same. It was given by H.H. the Nizam.
