Half its blade might have been covered by blue-black niello. The white may have come from a posterior attempt to stop the rusting process by first cleaning, then waxing the blade. The white stuff being wax deposits within the originally gilt engravings (gravures?).

Or, above all, is this particular sword pattern variation recognisable?
