You are NOT doing well! In fact, you are doing TERRIBLE!... just like all of us did when we started to collect and as bad as most of us still do from time to time :-).
Making mistakes is the name of the game and while you will be doing less and less of them, occasionally you will buy something so awful, that you will just sit as log and moan" Why me?" I know, I do :-(
Someone wise on this Forum once defined it as a price for higher education. So, bite the bullet, hit the books, ask questions, do research, be critical and honest. Come to think of it, no different from working on a PhD:-)
