Odd grip
had this one for a few years now, don't think i've posted it before, so i thought i'd throw it out here for comments as i've not yet seen a grip like it.
it has a 15.75 inch narrow-fullered blade stamped AGS thickness at the grip end 5mm, near the tip 3mm. grip is polished horn with a few decorative rings incised between the pin and the blade end. the pommel end of the horn, where it would have been open after removal from the animal, has been plugged with what appears to be wood, it has been coloured black and polished to match the horn, there is a small steel pin going thru the thickest part of the bulb to hold it. the scabbard, also finished black has a fairly extensive leaf carving for the top 7 inches and the bottom 5 inches with a 5 inch plain bit in between, the throat piece is similarly carved. carving is only on the starboard side, reverse is plain. the big bulbous grip balances the blade nicely, the balance point is three inches ahead of the blade/grip junction. |
