Dagger I.D. please.

Hi,
Got this recently and would like your ideas. Length 8 3/4 inches, blade 5 inches, the usual where? what? and when? Bone handle with full tang blade, looks quite utility, handles nicely and appears well used. The over large leather loop,12 1/2 inches, on the sheath has me a wee bit perplexed, attached to a waist belt and it would be down mid thigh, this seems somewhat improbable therefore how would it be worn?
