sword id requested
Hi all,
I believe this type of sword has already been discussed but I have forgotten the name and the thread. I would appreciate it if someone could provide me with either. My specimen has a 19.5" (49.5cm) long blade with a spine thickness at the hilt of a hair under 3/8" (8mm). The 4.75" (12cm) hilt is of hardwood that has a color and figure similar to tiger maple. There is a rattan wrap around the base of the hilt that, along with the scabbard throat treatment, reminds one of a mandau or jimpul. The black lacquered, two piece, wood scabbard is held together with what appear to be silver bands. The top band is 8 7/8" (22.5cm) long and is surmounted by a scalloped copper band and then a narrow silver band with an embossed woven rope decoration. This design is echoed on the bottom of the scabbard. The band at the drag is shaped to match the scabbard tip and is held to the scabbard by a pin through the domed center of an embossed copper square set at a 45° angle.
