Default Two mid-20th C Phillipines swords

These are two very similar Filipino swords, probably from the Batangas/Lake Taal region.

Each has a horn hilt, with tangs peined over the end of the hilt with a small brass plate. Both hilts are similarly septagonal in cross-section and have a small brass septagonal ferrule. Each has a thin brass guard.

It is the blades, however, where the quality forging is most similar. Each blade seems to be monosteel, perhaps made from leaf springs. There is excellent gradation in the thickness of the spines from hilt to tip, culminating in swedges measuring about 6-7 inches along the distal back edges. The sides of the distal spines are beveled, and on the shorter blade (LUZ 1058) there is a sharpened edge. The other (LUZ 1085) has similarly beveled edges but the edge is not sharp, although it could easily be made sharp. The regular cutting edges are each very sharp.

No scabbard for either one.

LUZ 1058

Blade length: 14 in.
Hilt length: 6.25 in.

LUZ 1085
