Default Large Visayan talibon/garab--WWII era

This is a large knife/small sword that comes from the estate of an old GI (Marine S/Sgt W. Johnson) who served in the Pacific during WWII. His family could not recall if he was with Macarthur at the landing on Leyte but he saw action in the Philippines.

Recent discussion on these boards would suggest that this knife is based on the older garab weapon used in the eastern Visayas. The hilt is wrapped in electrical tape and the scabbard has thin strips of metal holding it together.The initials M.P. are stamped on the blade just below the hilt. The blade has a dark patina and shows evidence of hard use.

OAL = 25.25 inches (64 cm).

Asking $130.00 + postage and insurance.

Please PM me with any questions.

Ian.
