Fine Persian Shamshir Sword with Wootz Blade
I got it a year ago from a respected seller we all know well. I want to swap it with a good ottoman kilij or sell it. The sword is more beautiful than the photos. Enen in places the gold inlay is gone there is the fine engraving so it is aesthetical complete. I will tell the price in private messages or mails because I will post it in Ebay if does not sell here.
Here is the description of the seller and his photos (minus his logo): Fine Persian Shamshir Sword with Wootz Blade A Shamshir, the Eastern saber that for centuries enchanted the world and was copied in practically all armies of the western world. A light. Deeply curved, wedge shape blade of minimal and simple design and yet a lethal slashing weapon in the experienced hand. Here we offer for sale a classical example that was purchased in Jerusalem in 1918 and was in a private collection in the USA since than. A 32 inches blade forged from Sham steel (Wootz pattern common to the middle east and Turkey). The hilt fittings are all steel richly decorated with gold Koftgari work. Ivory grips. Wood scabbard with black leather cover ( recent) and the original steel fittings with gold koftgari decoration. Total length 38 inches. Blade in very good condition. The gold inlay on the cross guard and the scabbard tip is largely erased, but well remained on the pommel, the grip strap and the scabbard’s belt rings. The grips are aged cracks but very solid. A fine piece. |
