Default Colonial machete with unusual hilt with pictures

Reciently I have bought this machete http://www.antiqueswords.com/product...--ca.-1900.htm
, and I´m wondering about the hilt, because is very similar with some bolos of Philippines, the blade and the leather scabbard is normal, like anothers machetes used by Spanish in Cuba and Philippines.
Opinions?
Best regards
carlos
