Default Ethnographic archery references

I’ve read through several years of forum threads and I’ve noticed a few posts on ethnographic archery. A common “thread” notes how difficult it is to ID origin/tribal affiliation. As a tribal archery aficionado I wanted to recommend a few helpful references. In addition to the American Museum of Natural History and Grayson Archery Collection databases I’ve found the work of German author Hendrik Wiethase to be useful and enjoyable to browse through. I won’t link but these titles are available in ebook format:

“Arrows of the World”

“Bows and Arrows of the Indian Subcontinent” (German and English versions)

“Bows and Arrows, Blowpipes and Spears of Oceania : Including the Malai Archipelago”

“Bows, Arrows and Spears of Africa” (German and English versions)

“Arrow of Northern Asia”

Lastly, “Ata Epe: Bows, Arrows and Archery of Africa” is a nice coffee table book in German. There is a paperback English version but I don’t have a copy. I understand enough German to use the book as a reference.

The books have a self-published feel but the value and scope is comparable to van Zonneveld’s work on Indonesian blades.

Hope forum members find this useful.
