Default Trip to Jordan

Hallo a friend of mine, who loves of antiques and edged weapons, has just arrived to Jordan, and he will stay for 2-3 more days. He asks me if anybody has any advise for him regarding where to find antiques or antique weapons.
Regards, Eftihis

Hello Eftihis,
I do not think it's possible to find anything decent at Amman's markets nowadays. I'd take a bus trip to Damascus (only 3 hours) and see Remon there (I can send you his tel.numbers if you wish).

I just may confirm what said Alex,
to have visited Amman for several days,
looking for antiquities, I was deeply disappointed .... dry market

in Damascus,
Remon is without argumentation "THE EXPERT" in that field
also, many other antiques dealers, who have some pieces sometimes interesting,
they are regrouped in the "Metha Pacha Street" named also "Straight Street"

Yes, you're right Dom - "Madhat Pasha" and "Bab Sharki" are the best places to visit in Damascus. Also, it's good to hear from you Dom.

Nice Kurdish Jambiya dagger. The fittings do not look new, as on most similar jambiyas in most Middle Eastern markets nowadays, and perhaps early to mid 20th Century. Also, good quality old blade. The quality is well above average tourist level, and the price is also reasonable, especially if the scabbard is silver and the blade is wootz!!!. Definitely a good (and nice looking) find.

Hallo Dom,

He bought it in Petra, just outside the entrance to the gorge. Ther a re a few shops there this was one of the first shops, just outside the entrance. There were 3-4 more daggers, but he couldnt say the exact type.
By the way, i do not think the blade is wootz.
