Marks on a Halberd
I’m trying to find out more about this Halberd.
A few things to note: Marked on the point with what I believe is a variation of the Solingen Cross. Ref: post 38 http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?p=222791 There’s a mark on the wooden shaft that I’m not familiar with. But I wonder if it has some relation (the star/asterisk) to the mark found on post 16 here: http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...827#post123827 It also has an iron pointed collar on the bottom that I haven’t seen elsewhere. But I’m not finding many pics of that perspective in general. I’ve found a few with similar features, but not the same. To my eye it bears some resemblance to the examples here: https://www.clevelandart.org/art/1916.1559 Any insights or theories would be greatly appreciated. |

I thought I recognised that smith’s mark from somewhere. Staffan Kinman’s excellent book “European Makers of Edged Weapons, their Marks “ (2015) suggests the mark is of the Stantler family.
The star/askerisk mark you refer to is probably an Edelweiss, an alpine flower extremely popular in Switzerland and Bavaria. The halberd is probably from there also. |

Halberd spotted in Landeszeughaus Graz with familiar mark. Or at least very similar…

Thanks for this!
Interesting that the mark seems to incorporate elements from both marks on the piece with me. |
