A HISTORY OF STEEL IN EASTERN ASIA
Several people on this Forum and elsewhere have asked if I have a copy of this book for sale. A friend who is not a member of this forum has asked that I put his copy up for sale.
This is a very hard to find publication—only 800 copies were printed—and it is recognized as an important contribution to an understanding of the development of steel weapons over time in Eastern Asia. Some members of this forum contributed their items for display in the exhibition, and the book contains pictures of the entire exhibited items. This example is in excellent condition. Asking USD 325.00 plus shipping and insurance. Payal preferred please. I do not ship to Russia or China. PLEASE NOTE—THIS VOLUME IS HEAVY AND WILL REQUIRE ADDITIONAL POSTAGE. Publisher's description Published by Macau Art Museum, 2007. An important monograph and catalogue of the use of steel in early East- and Southeast Asia, this spectacular volume surveys the development of weaponry in Asia, beginning with Chinese stone, jade and bronze weapons. The primary focus of the work, though, is on the evolution of steel as the material of choice in production of fine weaponry in Asia. To that end the catalogue surveys the use of this material in China, Korea, Japan, the Philippines (particularly the kris) and mainland SE Asia (Thailand, Burma). Some of the finest examples of each genre are illustrated and described, making this volume an indispensable reference, with scholarly essays on Chinese weapons of the pre-Qin and Han dynasties, the evolution in China from bronze to iron, the history and characteristics of Korean swords, Japanese sword history and technology, Japanese sword mountings, the sandata of the Philippines and the swords of continental Southeast Asia. Trilingual English, Portuguese, Chinese. Printing limited to 800 copies. 510 pp., over 350 col. plates, chronology of the development of the Japanese sword, map.
