It is a talibon from the Philipines. Looks good. Scabbard looks more recent.

Or some may call it a bolo. From the Visayan Islands in the Philippines. Possible the island of Panay. The knob type hilt, the long octagonal ferrule, and the chisel ground blade are all characteristic of the Visayas. But the experts will be along shortly.

It seems to me that the term 'bolo' has become one of those generally applied terms for Filipino machete type edged weapons, especially with military presence since the Spanish American War and the many souveniers brought back. Is there a more specific definition of 'bolo' as a weapon type?
